In Hartford County, extra officers responded to the Howell Cheney Technical School in Manchester after a student reportedly expressed a desire to commit a school shooting, though it was later determined that it wasn’t related to a firearm, and instead a knife was recovered from the teen.
According to State Police, a family member of the student contacted them shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, stating that a student in an emotional crisis had allegedly made threats to the schools.
State and local police in Manchester were able to stop the bus the student was reportedly on and the student was detained.
Police said that the student was taken to an area hospital after the incident was diffused for further evaluation.
Investigators said that there is no credible threat to the school or public, and the increased presence was simply out of precaution.
In response, the school also entered its “lockout mode” as an extra precaution, which means that no one is allowed in or out of the school without a scheduled appointment.
The incident remains under investigation. No other information was immediately available.
